Need Ideas For Blog Posts?

Stumped For Blog Post Ideas?… Here’s 12 That Will Surely Get You Writing Again

There is no question that a blog can be one of the most powerful tools you use to drive traffic to generate money… in addition to boosting your credibility. A blog is an important thing to have if you’re an at-home entrepreneur or local business owner. It  is important to have a blog for many reasons. Here are just a few:

  • When you have a blog you create a sense of community. This “community” effect also positions you as an expert in the eyes of your visitors. Being viewed as an expert it’s more likely that people will purchase from you.
  • Blogs have a powerful effect on the search engines. Did you know that search engine spiders love new content?… and they reward websites that are fresh and updated frequently by ranking higher in searches. They are set up to be updated with new content on a regular basis so if you’re posting at least a few times a week, the spiders scan your site more often.
  • Blogs are an easy way to promote affiliate and joint venture offers to make extra cash. Have you found a product that you really like and feel like you could promote it well? Well how about doing a blog post about the benefits and/or drawbacks about that product and make some money when people decide to buy based on the information provided (if you would like to learn more about this click here and read our review of Bring the Fresh)
  • Drive traffic to your sales page and other offers. So many times I see websites that are, in effect, digital business cards. There is nothing dynamic or compelling about them… they just site there like billboards on the side of the internet superhighway. If they had blog, they could use it to not only give customers access to them (great for giving customers a sense of connection with you), but also you will now be able to drive your loyal customers to special offerings that you may have. You can do this any time. For example, you may decide to run a promotion… if you have a blog you can post it and have instant buzz from your followers. You can’t do that with a static billboard.
  • Give you a great opportunity to get visitors to bond with you and reinforce your authority status in your niche. By offering quality information that adds value to your visitors’ lives, they’ll keep coming back… and they’ll share your site with others

So How About Some Blog Post Ideas

First, before anything, make a commitment to make your business more connected through a blog. The more frequently you post to your blog, the more magnetic it will become. You ever see blogs that have 2 or 3 posts… and they are 2 years old? Yes, there is a blog there, but it’s useless. You have to keep at it and keep the posts coming, EVEN though you feel like you are writing to yourself. (If you want check out a cool system for getting traffic to your site then click here) For now let’s just concentrate on getting useful content on your site.

So the question is, what do you write about? Just like you should be, I’m constantly on the lookout for great new ideas for articles that will help my customers. If you sell a widget, find everything you can about that widget, how people use it, the mishaps, the fixes, funny stories about the widget, videos of customers using the widget, etc… Here are a few favorite ideas that I want to pass on in the hopes that it will inspire you to blog more:

  • Look for Questions Related to What You Sell?: Go to forums or FAQ websites and use the questions you find as topics for your blog posts. Websites like Yahoo! Answers are question search engines where you can type in a topic and get a list of questions that people are asking about that topic. Look for questions that come up more that once, if you find those, it’s probably a hot topic.
  • Keep an Eye Out for Headlines: You probably read newspapers or magazines, or online news sources like AOL or Google News, etc…, look at the headlines and when one catches your attention then chances are, there’s a reason. You can use the structure of that great headlines and adapt them for your topic.
  • Get Critical: Find a product and write a review. It is often easier to rank for long-tail keywords like “{Product Name} review.” Even better would be to pick a product that is similar to the product that you are reviewing and do a comparison style review. You can call it {product name} vs {product name}. Plus, people searching for specific products are often considering a purchase decision – which means you’re much more likely to make a sale.
  • If You Are a Marketer Become a Deal Watcher: People love to get a great deal – even if they weren’t going to purchase the item to begin with! If you find a hot deal happening in your market, become an affiliate (promoter) and then be the first to make it known by writing a post about it.
  • Share Your Secrets: Just about everyone loves to feel like they’re in on a secret. Why not write a blog post revealing the top secrets to success in your niche. If the content is helpful to the ready, there is no doubt that your page will be bookmarked, saved, highlighted, and remembered. They will surely be back for more, trust me on that one.
  • Provide Interesting Ideas: Make lists of ideas (like “6 Fun Things To Do With the Family When it’s Raining” or “5 Things You Can Do To Attract New Prospects”). People love lists they can scan, keep it short and simple… Yeah, I know I have trouble with this part
  • Offer Freebies: They say that the fastest way to grab your prospects’ attention is with the word “free”. I want to caution you about a couple of things before you take this and run though. I believe that people in general are getting wary of the word free. To many times “free” is used improperly as a way to lure people into a strong armed sales pitch… don’t be that guy. If you give something away, give away real value. BUT!! I want you to take a page out of the internet marketing book and ask the prospect for ONLY two things, their first name and there email address. With that you can promote to them forever, as long as you continue to provide value.
  • Write About Mistakes: People inherently think that they’re missing information that other people know. Why not write about the most common mistakes that newbies make in your market – and is sure to make them pay attention.
  • Sponsor A Contest: This is a surefire way to get more people to post comments on your blog. You could give away one of your own products, a fun gadget like an iPod or kindle, or even cash. You could even partner up with another blog owner to go havzies on the prize… in addition to getting more exposure to your blog through their readers.
  • Picture Posts: With this, you can either use your own photos, a stock photography site like iStock.com or sign up as an affiliate company within your niche. For example, if you’re in the dog fashion niche, find a company that sells a variety of dog apparel. Since most retailers include product photos in the promo tools they give their affiliates, this is one of the easiest posts to do. Your post can include a few photos of your favorite products.
  • Lead by Example: A great way to boost your credibility is by posting case studies of customers who have used your product successfully  on your blog. Do this by contacting someone who’s given you a testimonial and ask them if you can share their story.
  • Read More: The best writers read a lot. Subscribe to your favorite magazines and newsletters or online sources in your market niche and take inspiration from what’s happening in that niche.

I hope that these ideas will help you to stay current, stay fresh, informed and most importantly… a valued resource in the eyes of the reader/prospect. Blog on!

‘Til later,

Zak
